Written by Gar Cole. The judges and show press might not have appreciated how much work we put into our stand at the Resto show this year, but the cars and the stand attracted lots of interest from the show-going public and the motoring press, with both Jim Scott’s Cortina and Ian Woodward’s Granada making it into Classic Ford magazine this month - well done chaps! Also below is another chance to see the interview I filmed at the show with proud Granada owner Ian . Written by Gar Cole & Paul Sweeney. We would like to introduce and congratulate the three owners whose cars have been selected for our stand at the 2022 Practical Classics Restoration Show. Sincere thanks to all those who offered their cars - we had a fantastic selection to work with and all were worthy but sadly we can only take 3, which made the selection process very difficult indeed. If we are lucky enough to be allocated a larger stand, we may be able to add a fourth car later - but we won't know the stand details until the last minute so for now we are limited to three cars. The cars we have chosen are:
This year we are working hard on a themed stand that recreates the small independent car garages that were a regular fixture in most suburban areas before the dominance of the mighty main dealer showrooms and car supermarkets.
The stand will be using a lot of period paraphernalia to help create the feel of the late 1970s - imagine the small caravan as ‘the office‘ surrounded by Union Jack bunting, coloured lamps around the fences, cheesy sales slogans in white marker on the windscreens, cardboard cutouts of celebs of the day with period-correct music playing and even the Admin team dressed up as salesmen in the full fur-lined camel coats and trilbys a la Arthur Daley. As you can tell, the emphasis will be on fun and nostalgia; hopefully the show-going public will really see what we are trying to achieve and come and interact with us. We would love your support if you're going to the show so please come and say hello; we’re doing it for you all and our great group. Enthusiasts at the NEC Resto Show in March 2018I continued browsing my computer for good stuff from past group events and soon decided there was more than enough from 2018's Resto Show to make an enjoyable few minutes and hopefully whip up some enthusiasm for the next Resto Show in March 2022. PLEASE don't forget to Like, Comment and Subscribe on our YouTube channel - it really helps us out Enthusiasts at the NEC Resto Show in March 2018 features our club stand at this prestigious and fun show at Birmingham's NEC. Our stand was a big hit with show-goers, and member Paul won a Pride of Ownership award for his MGBGT and got to meet the celebs! Above all, there were many excellent British classic cars and not a small amount of cake consumed! Newly published on our official You Tube channel is "Enthusiasts at the 2017 Resto Show" - a slideshow containing the best images taken from the weekend of our 2017 appearance at this prestigious classic car show at the NEC which is sponsored by Practical Classics. From Andrea Seed, PR Director, Poppyseed Media Ltd The next outing of the Practical Classics Classic Car & Restoration Show, with Discovery, will now take place in March 2022. Event Director Lee Masters said: “We understand this will be as big of a disappointment to our exhibitors and visitors as it is to us. We have all been very much looking forward to getting back to some form of normality and ‘business as usual’.
“We are truly sorry that we have had to make this extremely difficult decision and thank all involved for their continued patience, understanding and support in these ever-changing times.” The organisers are not planning on letting the occasion go unmarked though and are putting together an Online Edition, to be held on Saturday 27 March 2021. Celebrating all the great elements of the show, the classic car community will be invited to share their restoration stories, advice and projects through the show’s social media channels. Classic Car Auctions is hosting its Spring Live Online sale on Friday 26 March, with the Silverstone Auctions Race Retro Sale taking place the following two days. The Practical Classics Classic Cars and Restoration Show Auction will take place on 11-13 June 2021. Lee added: “We have confidence that come the autumn, life will have returned to a more normal rhythm and we are planning the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with Discovery as usual for November.” Tickets already purchased will automatically be carried over to the same day next year (18-20 March 22). Visitors also have the option to move their booking to the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show (11-13 November 21) or Reis Race Retro (18-20 February 22).
