Gar Cole and the team organise a range of classic car events every season for members to attend, from the prestigious world-leading Practical Classic Classic Car and Restoration Show and the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show (both at the NEC) to formal static shows in fields to organised driving tours in beautiful areas of the country. It almost goes without saying that Covid-19 is still affecting public events, so please do check with Gar and the team before travelling. These events are not limited to pre-85 British motors as they are also open to members of our sister group, Pre-Millennial Motors which includes cars, bikes and commercial vehicles from every country in the world built before the year 2000. We're a friendly lot and would love to see you at an event or two - you can even come if you don't own a classic at all as there are usually spare seats going (just ask first!). All events with the exception of the major commercial shows are free to enter, but you will usually be responsible for your own food, fuel and insurance as well as any accommodation that may be needed. Any questions? Just ask Gar Cole - he's the font of all knowledge as far as group events are concerned. We are delighted to announce that Toby Bruce has agreed to join our Group Experts team. As many of you will know, Toby has more knowledge and experience than most in an area many of us are not so clued-up about - pre-war British motors. Please welcome and congratulate Toby and utilise his knowledge when you need it - he'll be happy to help wherever he can.
If you're unsure what a Group Expert is, here's an explanation from those nice people at Facebook: Facebook groups are home to subject matter experts covering a breadth of topics. These knowledgeable members often join conversations to answer questions, provide insights, and offer support. by Admin
Here's to 2021 and making new memories with the great members of Enthusiasts of British motor vehicles built before 1985.
FBHVC Press Release. FBHVC announces key stakeholder position within DVLA to assist with historic vehicle backlogFirstly, the Federation would like to lend its support to the hardworking staff at the DVLA who have been dealing with a hugely increased workload in the wake of personnel shortages brought about by the pandemic. We think every workplace can relate to the struggles of the past 18-months. The Federation, through our constant dialogue with the DVLA and our close working relationship built up over many years, has managed to put systems in place whereby our member clubs, their representatives and experts on the ground are able to assist the DVLA through the outsourcing of certain elements of registration processes to the historic vehicle community. These have included in the past the V765 scheme but also more recently, the validation of imports and VHI applications. We believe these established processes are key to helping the DVLA deal with the backlog for historic vehicles and effectively outsources much of the investigative process and verification the historic vehicle community. We understand that although there have been increased turnaround times, the DVLA for our sector at least, are beginning to get back on top of applications and have been in dialogue with them now to understand how best we can lend our assistance. Our focus is always to ensure that historic vehicles that should be on the road are on the road and being enjoyed by their owners and the public as quickly as possible. As a result of those recent discussions on how we can assist the DVLA, the FBHVC has now been officially appointed as key stakeholder in the DVLA. The DVLA have put in place and a newly designated relationship manager to work through the various pain points for the historic vehicle community in partnership with the FBHVC. A spokesperson for the DVLA said: We are pleased that the FBHVC has a positive and constructive relationship with the DVLA’s Vehicle Policy team, and I am keen that this continues and is strengthened. We also now have a dedicated Corporate Services team who work closely with our key stakeholders.
Congratulations to each of our new Experts - and our thanks for accepting this role that we hope will help foster even more well-informed, constructive and helpful conversations in our group. What is a group expert and how do I spot one in the group?(Information shared by Facebook)

Newly published on our official You Tube channel is "Enthusiasts at the 2017 Resto Show" - a slideshow containing the best images taken from the weekend of our 2017 appearance at this prestigious classic car show at the NEC which is sponsored by Practical Classics. If you like it, please give it a Like and subscribe to the channel to help us build a new audience there. Message sponsored by Richard Edmonds Auctions Ltd. We hope this email finds you well. With our next Petroliana sale being a few months off we thought it might interest some of you to learn that Chippenham Auction Rooms (our sister company) has a sale including Petroliana on Saturday 17th July. This is a two day sale with an extensive private collection of science fiction and TV related toys, two private collections of vinyl records, pop memorabilia, stamps, coins, postcards etc. being sold on Thursday 15th July and then 400+ lots of enamel signs, shop display pieces, petroliana and motoring ephemera and other early advertising being sold on Saturday 17th July. When we set these dates we imagined we'd be post 'hug day', however, that has been postponed so once again we find ourselves setting out the Covid-secure plans. As desperate as we all are to return to bidding 'in-the-room', we're mindful of the risks still there and have sought advice. We are able to confirm that we can offer in-the-room bidding but this is limited. To invite a select number of customers would of course be an impossible quest for us. We will not make our sales exclusive and so here is our offering: there are to be no reserved seats, it will not be a first come first served on the day either. What we suggest is a fair turn-around and so we can have a set number of people in the room. This will work fairly if customers come in for the lots they are interested in and exit temporarily afterwards. The saleroom shutter will be open and we will take bids from outside in the carpark with a porter mediating when necessary. To be fair to all, no-one will be able to reside in the saleroom for the duration of the sale regardless of the number of lots that hold interest unless the number attending is below the number we can accommodate. The situation is far from ideal but we ask you to be patient with us and fellow bidders, this is a trial for us all and will only work if we're all mindful of one-another. We desperately want this to work and will do our utmost to smooth the process for you and we are of course pleased we can return to seeing our bidders and offering the opportunity to view the lots in person. To manage numbers we ask please that you email or call the office to notify us of your intent to attend. Please supply your name and contact number. If numbers are looking to get out of hand we'll need to limit numbers but we're not anticipating that at this stage. If you are able to view before the day then we advise that you do, as with the limited numbers able to view at one time, viewing may be difficult especially for Saturday's viewers. Viewing: Wednesday 10am-5pm, Thursday 8.30am-5pm, Friday 10am-5pm, Saturday from 8.30am, Sales starting at 9.30am.
In addition to in the room bidding, bids can be left with us, live bidding over the telephone available as well as through the-saleroom.com Refreshments will be available. From the team at Richard Edmonds Auctions Ltd (REAL) Written by Gar Cole. You are invited to join me on 26 February 2022 - the weekend of my 45th birthday - to break up the long winter break. I propose a starting route at the hotel in Ross on Wye, crossing the beautiful Wye valley and into the heart of the Forest.
Following the gold forest route from Cinderford to Coleford, the forest is amazing at the time of year as it starts to emerge from Winter into Spring. The route will take in its first stop and visit to the Dean Heritage Centre, following on will be a steady 20 mile drive through the forests B roads, leading to our second stop at Clearwell caves - modernised with full lighting, level walk paths and a great visitor centre and cafe / facilities ideal for a lunch break, it will not matter on the weather. From here a drive further down the Wye valley to our 3rd and final stop at Tintern Abbey, it is fully open this time of year for brave explorers and a great chance for photos with the cars, from here a journey back to the hotel and pre booked evening dinner. We are pleased to announce the launch of a brand-new group YouTube video channel. The idea is to share video of our activities at various events both as a record for members and also to encourage new members to join us. Currently there are fifteen videos live filmed over the last few years, including a new one from the 2021 Staffs Oatcake Tour and another from way back in 2017 at the Bubble Car Museum in Lincs.
We will add more as they become available.
