Grille Badges - calling Last Orders for Batch #2

25/3/2018

by Paul Sweeney & Gar Cole
Orders will close for Batch #2 of our very popular Grille/Bar Badges at midnight GMT this Saturday, 31 March. It currently seems unlikely there will be any more made available in the future, so this is in all likelihood the final opportunity to get one.
Picture
All those who have placed orders in this second batch will receive an email informing them that their order is "Being Processed" as soon as the order has been placed with the manufacturer - this should be during the week commencing Monday 2 April.

Expect a wait for delivery of approx 8-12 weeks from then; updates will be issued by email as and when there is anything to report, but be warned - the manufacturers do not provide regular progress updates.

Classic Car & Restoration Show 2018 - thanks, guys!

A note of thanks on behalf of the group to the guys who exhibited their classics on our stand at the NEC over the weekend and also to those who didn't have a car to display but gave up their precious time to help out - stands at major shows do not 'just happen'.
Picture

Its a considerable commitment to be there for the full three days and is much appreciated by the rest of us at home enjoying the show through your eyes.

Also to all the overseas members who provided photos of their Brits Abroad - thank you! The Cool Wall seems to have been very well received and is likely to feature again in future events. Overall, the stand was a credit to the group and has received a great deal of positive feedback.

Special Thanks

  • Phil Allin and Dominic Coleman for the smashing new show banner which got rave reviews
  • Dominic Coleman for designing and printing the Cool Wall photos and signage
  • Mr & Mrs Peake for everything - but especially Award-Winning Lemon Drizzle cake!
  • The Brooks Bros for stepping in to help when we lost an exhibit at the last minute
  • Alan Crown, Ian Woodward, Thomas Jenkins and Mark Smith for bringing their lovely motors to the show
  • John Simpson for spending so much time helping on the stand despite having another stand at the show
  • Eric Dalton for generously providing the carpet that made such a difference to our stand

Last but not least ...

Most of all we all owe a debt of gratitude to Gar Cole, without whom none of it would have happened. Gar is our very own Energiser Bunny and deserves a huge pat on the back for organising our part in a very successful show.

STOP PRESS - National Car Club Awards 2018 - the results are in

24/3/2018

by Paul Sweeney
Well the guys thoroughly enjoyed their evening even though we didn't win an award - we were shortlisted for Car Club of the Year (won by the TR Register) and Outstanding Online Presence (won by the Lotus Drivers Club) but weren't in luck on this occasion. Nevertheless we are pretty pleased that we - as a non-subscription Facebook Group rather than a traditional car club - were shortlisted in two categories. That's an achievement we should not and do not take for granted.

Our founder and all-round good chap John Simpson was also shortlisted personally for the Lifetime Achievement Award; he wasn't lucky either but don't worry John - you're our winner regardless!

Our sincere congratulations go to all of tonight's winners - we will just have to take a look at what they do better than us and try even harder next time!

The full list of winners can be seen here: https://www.facebook.com/nationalcarclubawards/

Club Grille Badges - final week to place an order

22/3/2018

by Paul Sweeney & Gar Cole
In one week's time, we will stop taking orders for our very popular grille badges and the order will go to the manufacturer. This may very well be the final batch, so we suggest everyone treats this as the last chance to get one of these high quality badges - once the order's gone in, we cannot add more.

Gar and the guys have worked hard and the Club stand is ready! Member and proud exhibitor Mark Smith said excitedly:
OK, I realise I am biased and I have not been around the other halls, but from what I’ve seen so far, our stand is the best in show! Well done Gar and everyone today, what a club!
Here is a short video clip filmed by the guys when they were done preparing the stand.

As always, all the best photos posted in the group throughout the show weekend will be collected together on the official Photo Gallery so keep coming back to see more.

Club Coordinator for and on behalf of Clarion Events Ltd
Picture
Presented in association with Tourism Ireland, supported by Classic Car Weekly and endorsed by the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs, the National Car Club Awards 2018 will be taking place at the NEC on Saturday 24 March alongside the Practical Classics Classic Car & Restoration Show, with Discovery.

I wanted to remind you that six of the 18 awards categories presented on the night will be recognising the efforts that clubs have put into their displays at PCCC&RS!

Our expert panel of judges, including Danny Hopkins from Practical Classic Magazine, David Simister from Classic Car Weekly and David Whale from the FBHVC, will tour the club displays on the Friday of the Show to judge the winners of the Cherished Car & Car Club Display awards:

At Show Awards

What will the judges be looking for?

  • BEST CAR AT SHOW – sponsored by Classic Car Auctions
The Judges will be looking out for the most inspiring example at the show – which beauty will catch their eye?

  • BEST STAND & CAR CLUB DISPLAY (UNDER 80 sqm) – sponsored by Practical Classics

  • BEST STAND & CAR CLUB DISPLAY (OVER 80 sqm)
– sponsored by Footman James
These awards will be given to the clubs with the most welcoming stands which encourage visitors to take a closer look at an attractive and eye-catching vehicle display.

The Judges will be looking for an open and accessible stand design encouraging visitors to come and explore the cars on display. They will be looking for: a stylish presentation; clear and compelling messaging and information; an interesting, well-presented restoration or servicing demonstration or display; and stand staff engaging visitors in conversation or interactive activity.

  • BEST LIVE WORKING ON VEHICLES AT SHOW – sponsored by Meguiar’s
Judges will be observing the difficulty and scale of the work being undertaken on a vehicle in the live exhibition environment; the variety of skills on display; and how successful the club is at engaging and educating visitors.

  • BEST LIVE DEMONSTRATION ON A CAR CLUB STAND AT SHOW – sponsored by Carole Nash
*NEW AWARD* Judges will be looking for the best presentation of a smaller scale skill, demonstration or maintenance technique offering successful visitor interaction and education.

  • BEST RESTORED CAR AT SHOW – sponsored by Practical Classics
The Judges will be looking for an outstanding example of workmanship and authenticity presented alongside its restoration story showing the ‘before and after’ achievement.

The NCCCA Dinner & Presentation

Picture
Two representatives from each of the winning club stands will be invited to attend the awards dinner & ceremony from 6.15pm - 11pm in The Concourse Suite at the NEC.  Winners will be informed by show open on Saturday.  Good luck!

2018 show banner design revealed

18/3/2018

by Paul Sweeney
Regular readers will already know we recently adopted a new club logo as well as the change of club sponsors, so we needed to make some alterations to our 8 foot-wide show banner that was kindly provided for us by Phil Allin of club sponsors Alvaston Press.

With design input from the talented Dominic Coleman, we can now reveal our brand new banner and we think it looks pretty amazing! It will be seen for real at its first-ever public outing on our stand at the Practical Classics Classic Car & Restoration Show at the NEC, Birmingham this weekend March 23-25.

Our sincere thanks go to Phil and Dominic for their time and effort providing this for the group - it's much appreciated, guys!

Introducing the "Brits Abroad" Cool Wall - International Members' cars

17/3/2018

by Paul Sweeney & Gar Cole
It is a fact that around 30% of our membership lives outside the UK and for most of them, attending the major shows on the UK Classic Car calendar is unlikely - and making their cars available to exhibit on our club stand would be even less likely.

So, we asked ourselves - what could we do help non UK-based members get involved and also demonstrate to the show-going public that we are in fact a global group? The answer? An International Members'
"Brits Abroad" Cool Wall on our stand at the NEC this month, displaying photos of overseas classic Brits! (with thanks to Top Gear for inspiration).

Picture
The call went out and numbers of you responded. We are now very proud to unveil the gallery here for those unable to attend the show at the NEC in person. Thanks to all the members who submitted their vehicles for display - I'm sure everyone will agree they did us proud.

Special thanks to Dominic Coleman for preparing the photographs so professionally. The original prints will be displayed on the club stand at the Practical Classics Classic Car & Restoration Show at the NEC Birmingham March 23-25, 2018.

Congratulations, Paul Berman MBE!

"A special day yesterday. Went to Buckingham Palace to be awarded my MBE. The coach in the courtyard takes bad people to the Tower of London, but luckily I behaved quite well.
With typical and admirable British humility and reserve, the single line above was all that appeared on his social media feed about this remarkable recognition.

Yes - our very own Paul Berman has been honoured in the utterly British way by making him a "Member of the Order of the British Empire" and we think that's brilliant news for a thoroughly good chap.
Paul tells us, "I've been a trustee / chair of trustees of an independent school for pupils with Autistic Spectrum Disorder for many years and was nominated for, 'services to children with special educational needs and disabilities'.

Prince William did the honours at Paul's ceremony, and as Mike Peake rightly says, "Prince William wasn’t the only “nice chap” at the investiture!"

Congratulations from us all, Paul - we are delighted for you!

Pssst .. was there any cakey?

Did you receive our first weekly club news digest today? No?

9/3/2018

by Paul Sweeney
If not, that's because you haven't signed up to receive it yet! Let me share with you why we decided to set up a club mailing list. Take a look at the infographic below - does it sound like you? If it does - you're not alone.
Picture
Does this sound like you?
It's incredibly frustrating to put in the hard yards organising events, designing club merchandise, spending precious time writing blogs or announcing club news - only to realise that a great many of you never saw them.

It's nobody's fault of course - its just the nature of a large Facebook group like ours that posts quickly disappear from members' feeds, never to be seen again in many cases.

So we decided to do something and have set up a mailing list to send two weekly emails to everyone that subscribes.

Weekly News Digest

Weekly Blog Digest

The first and most important is the Weekly News Digest, which will bring you news, event info and special offers from the club shop and our sponsors. It is sent to all mailing list subscribers at 7pm GMT every Friday - unless there have been no new items published, in which case no email will be sent.

Below is this week's Weekly News Digest to show you the sort of thing you will receive if you join the mailing list. Click to enlarge it and please note it's a screenshot taken for this news item, so the links are not clickable as they would be in the real thing.
The second is the Weekly Blog Digest, which will bring you direct links to new blogs published each week.

It is sent to all mailing list subscribers at 7pm GMT every Tuesday - unless there have been no new blogs published, in which case no email will be sent.

You need never miss out again - and its all free, so join the list now!

We are now taking orders for club grille badges - Batch #2

8/3/2018

by Paul Sweeney and Gar Cole
Picture
The first batch of club grille badges sold out quickly and the feedback has been very positive. Many members who missed the first batch have been asking for them - so we are now accepting orders for Batch #2.

Because orders with the manufacturer must be for at least 25 badges, there is no guarantee that there will be another batch available in the future, so if you like the look of it (and who wouldn't?) order yours now to avoid disappointment - this could be the last opportunity.

The batch order will be placed with the manufacturer on or around Monday 2 April 2018, so make sure you order before then.

Please remember:
Grille badges are NOT held in stock - they are manufactured to order, which takes time. We anticipate approx 8-12 weeks from the date a batch order is placed with the manufacturer which will be on or after 2 April 2018.

Order now

To order yours, click on the "Buy now" link on the left. You will be asked for full payment via PayPal; the shipping cost will be calculated when you enter your delivery address. We deliver worldwide.

The order will not be placed with the manufacturer until we have orders for at least the minimum number (25) and new orders have stopped arriving. In the event we fail to reach the minimum number, no order will be placed and your payment will be refunded.

Delivery:
The anticipated 8-12 week delivery time scale begins when we place the order with the manufacturer on or after 2 April 2018 - NOT when your payment is received by us. We ship worldwide.
